DIY Newborn Posing Pillow for Photoshoots
As I get ready to open my newborn photography studio here in Los Angeles, I’ve been pouring so much love into every detail behind the scenes. One of the things I’m most excited about? This adorable unicorn newborn posing pillow I made myself!
All the cute ones I found online were shipping from overseas, and I didn’t want to wait weeks or risk quality issues. I imagined waiting all that time only to end up with something that felt more Temu than timeless. So, in true “I can do it myself” fashion, I did it myself lol!

Btw I made this after I shot the beautiful baby girl at the beginning of the post! That is my photo, just not my prop!
Why I Made My Own Newborn Posing Pillow
As a newborn photographer, I’m always thinking about softness, comfort, and aesthetics. I love curating props that photograph beautifully and feel cozy for little ones. DIYing my own newborn posing pillow gave me total control over the quality, color, and texture. Plus, it was SO affordable.

Here’s what I used:
- Sherpa blanket – $7
- Two skeins of yarn – $6.30 each after coupons
- Fiber fill stuffing – $4.20 after coupon
I spent $23.80 total, and I still have enough left to make third! Less than $8 per pillow? Yes please.

The Heart Behind My Studio
Cost savings aside, there’s something really special about creating with your own hands. I’ve always taken so much pride in my work, from shooting and editing to styling and set design. I can’t even imagine outsourcing retouching, every image I deliver is perfected with intention.
This unicorn pillow is just one small example of how much love goes into every session I prepare. When you book a newborn shoot with me, you’re not just hiring a photographer. You’re trusting someone who truly understands how fleeting these early days are, and who’s devoted to capturing them beautifully.
